50 Shades Of Stout
Way back in time I brewed a stout. The first of some, not of many. It would be nice to own a brewery and, at that time at least, I thought "Mouthful Of Hops Brewery" worked. That was until I realised that brewing at scale is more laborious than I have time for and I've not got the drive to do it frequently enough to be more than okay or to build a company in a very competitive field. The beer was "Fifty Shades Of Stout #1 - Treacle & Chilli". It was yum but imperfect. The "fifty shades" thing is a bit passé now but the idea of it was that there are a lot of flavours that work with stout and why wouldn't the series just work through a bunch based on available ingredients and whimsey? Stout's my favourite beer style anyway. That in turn got me thinking that maybe every flavour of stout has already been created and shouldn't that be documented?... so I made a list of flavours and set off to research them. The initial brainstorm was as follows (and I've got no idea where some of these came from!):

Then of course I was going to research each and make a website that you could find the stout by the "colour" (either of the beer itself or, failing that, a colour from the label). Nice idea but since it's the start of a new year and I'm realistically never going to do this project it's a good time to spring clean so here's the research that I had...

You get the idea. An interesting thought but not one that needs to be taken any further. It's nice to revisit a project and give it a formal burial! Thank you kind brewers of the world for making so many magnificently flavoured beers.
