The exterior of a sewn notebookholder made from recycled tent inner material

I’ve ended up with two bin bags of wrecked tents from the school DofE group. Plans are to pass them on via Gumtree but I thought I could kill two birds and try to fix the sewing machine and make a holder for my notebook. The last time I sewed anything that wasn’t one of the kid’s Rainbows uniform badges was some time ago… so long ago, in fact, that I think the last time I made use of a sewing machine was when I was in high school! (I made a pair of pyjama boxers; loved those boxers.) So today was notable in that it’s been about 30 years. The sewing machine glitches appear to have been a combination of human error, slighly loose needle calibration screw and fluff, easily fixed.

So then I spent about three hours making some tent inner and a few salvaged fixings into a case/wallet/holder for my notebook and pen. (I thought I’d try to be less of a bridge troll for the summer so my notebook is an –orange– “Rising Sun” coloured Leuchtturm1917 paperback (B6+) dotted soft cover notebook. Fancy. I’ll go back to gothic all-black afterwards I’m sure). The wallet has a notebook sized pocket and a smaller one for bits or bobs. There’s a pen sleeve too. And it fastens with an inner-hanger loop from the tent. It’s rough as anything - I’d blame difficult fabric if we didn’t all know it was inexperience! - but it’ll do. It’ll make a nice addition to the upcoming #adventures.

And if I want to make some stuff-sacks from any more of the tent fabric then I think I’ve learned enough to be able to do that. 😃
